Check the cuff before trusting the reading

The American Heart Association publishes a plain guide to measuring blood pressure at home, covering the monitor, the cuff and how to take a reading. A cuff that fits poorly can throw off the number. If you track at home, bring the monitor to your next appointment and ask to have the fit and your technique checked.
