Savory Garlic-Butter Green Bean Side Dish
A simple, herb-packed side dish that brings fresh flavor and perfect texture to any meal.

Green beans don’t always get the spotlight, but this garlic-butter version may just steal the show. Ready in under 15 minutes, these vibrant green beans are first gently steamed in a skillet for that just-right tender-crisp texture, then tossed in rich garlic butter and brightened with fresh herbs.
Whether you’re prepping a weeknight dinner or looking for an easy, crowd-pleasing side dish, these garlic-butter green beans are a delicious go-to. They pair beautifully with everything from roasted chicken to grilled salmon, and bring a savory, garden-fresh flavor to your plate.
Ingredients
1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 tablespoon grated garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
1 tablespoon chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
Directions
Place the green beans and water in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cover and let steam, undisturbed, until most of the water has evaporated and the beans are bright green about 4 to 6 minutes.
Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the softened butter, grated garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the butter is fully melted and the beans are tender-crisp, about 4 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in the chives and parsley. Serve warm.
Fresh, fast, and flavorful this dish is a staple for good reason. Green beans are naturally low in calories and high in fiber, while garlic and herbs bring a boost of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits to the table.
